WHO ARE THE NEPHILIM?

There has been a mountain of writing on the subject of Genesis 6 “the sons of God.”An entire industry is fashioned around this one verse of scripture and I have found it both tantalizing and amazing as it is incredulous.

Entire histories have been fabricated and fortunes have been made surrounding this mythos.
I propose something to look at the facts. Instead of creating a myth around the Bible which in my view is heretical let’s look at history and historical documents that show the actual “sons of God” in a pure state as well as mingled.
There are around 250 different documents detailing not stories but interactions with this peculiar people. When the details are shown so are the origins of these myths, and very plainly at that.
Within the different cultures and countries they occupied this people had different but related names. All were known to signify the same thing.
They were known to be;
•    Singly of all peoples they were the sons of God and had direct descent from the Heavenly
•    Were feared and respected warriors
•    Taught the children of man arts and government
•    Rejected intermarriage outside their own people
•    They had the power to bless and curse and were dreaded and respected for this
•    Later some of them started to marry into the countries and cultures they were in
If this is starting to sound like the myth it is because the reality is even more startling. It is no wonder they are said to be 35 ft tall. But for familiarity even modern films carry this theme for people that seem larger than life. Mel Gibson in “Braveheart” was told he could not be Wallace because he was too short, as was Russell Crowe in “Gladiator.”
Once you understand the history of these people and who they actually were they can be traced also.
The Sons of God
In point of fact other than the following reference from Gen 6 there are no good sources for understanding the term “Sons of God” and no good way to translate the term used in many English versions “Nephilim” outside the Biblical narrative.
The oldest existing version uses the Greek word “gegantes” which means Titan and not giant. Its meaning contextually is the sons of the Gods and man when applied to Greek Mythos or the man-god.
Within the context of Christian faith and the End of Days this term was also applied to Antichrist in the same manner.
“Among many persons, too, this name is accounted divine, so that even the sun is termed “Titan” by those who do now possess [the rule]. This word, too, contains a certain outward appearance of vengeance, and of one inflicting merited punishment because he (Antichrist) pretends that he vindicates the oppressed”-
“.(6) And besides this, it is an ancient name, one worthy of credit, of royal dignity, and still further, a name belonging to a tyrant. Inasmuch, then, as this name “Titan” has so much to recommend it, there is a strong degree of probability, that from among the many [names suggested], we infer, that perchance he who is to come shall be called “Titan.” Hippolytus of Rome; Treatise on Christ and Antichrist

1And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,
2That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
3And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
4There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
According to the mythos these “sons of God” somehow carried across the Great Flood, after destroying and debasing the pinnacle of creation- mankind, they escaped the judgment.
The term Nephilim which can be rendered as fallen, one who makes men to fall, or tyrant or Titan within the context of “gegante”s and not giant-  is what carries the myth. The assumption of the existence of Nephilim bloodlines is because using Scripture to prove that, such as Numbers 13 is entirely unreliable and will be shown impossible.

At the bottom of the same page is the statement that the “Sons of God are always Angels-Notic ESatan was one of them.”
LA Marzuli ‘s new book comes with this tantalizing preview- “…Mac’s encounter is just the tip of a terrifying supernatural iceberg — for the Nephilim are back on earth. And Mac has stumbled onto their secret.”

SA.GAZ-The Apiru or Habiru – Divine Origin

In the list of gods in the temple of Adad in Assyria the following needs to be noted. The Habiru themselves are listed among the gods and incredibly before the image of the king who, himself was considered a god-man. Being in this list showed specifically they were considered to have divine origins and differently than rulers, officers, and ordinary people.

Originally known in the Sumerian hieroglyphs as SA.GAZ which applied only to the Habiru peoples, the glyph itself denoted their extreme violence, and lawless behavior.
In the Assyrian omen texts passages such as this it is clear that they were feared and held in awe.

If a halo surrounds the moon and a planet stands within it, the SA-GAZ will rage. If on the 12th day, moon and sun appear together, the reign will come to an end, the people will perish, the SA-GAZ will cut off the head. If a foetus . . . the Habiri will enter . . .

The texts denote raging gods. The SA.GAZ or Habiru are responsible for signs, blessings and cursings from heaven. Across every civilization they sojourned they were accredited with divine powers. They were universally regarded as coming from a special genetic stock. They were literally considered the children of the Divine.
SA-GAZ also appear in a star list denoting their divine or heavenly origin.

In Egypt it was no different.
The name Apir connected and in front of the names of gods we are familiar with denoting the Habiri/Apiri association with divinity.

First References Sumerian, Hurrian, and Akkadian

Sumer-The earliest references to this people comes from the first civilization recorded in the Bible and historically the first advanced civilization in history. Sumer was located in Mesopotamia or Southern Iraq. The culture flourished as early as 3500 BCE.
Nimrod builder of the Tower of Babel was the best known of the Sumerians. This first culture also invented writing, had court systems, trade, and schools. It was in this first form of writing the record of the SA.GAZ  was begun. As stated earlier the designation of the glyph was violence, a brigand, someone who lived outside the laws.
While they were not nomads they had no definite country and moved as it suited them.
In one Sumerian document this complaint is made- “an unclothed people, who travel in dead silence, who destroy everything, whose menfolk go where they will – they establish their tents and their camps – they spend their time in the countryside without observing the decrees of my king.”
Sumerian documents also show them engaged in every aspect of civil life from government to military to farming, the exception being socially.
“Four suits of clothing for the sergeants of the Habiri (were) received by Ibni-Adad…out of the midst of the treasury of Bit-Shamahh from the hand of Ili-ippalsa. Month of Nisanu, 11th day, year Rim-Sin became king.”
In another document suits of clothing were payment for military service. The documentation shows that they deployed as their own mercenary unit. While part of the Sumerian military they kept separate.
The Habiri name was also denoted to that of a sojourner. They were from across the river and did not enter the societies but had special status in them.
If a narrative is helpful -picture a people of and with no country. You live in a walled city and go to bed secure. In the morning the city is buzzing – The Habiri are here! You look over the wall and yesterday what was open plains is now a city of tents.
Will they bless us or curse us? Will our crops fail? Will the city be cursed and the people cease?
This was the mystique surrounding the Habiri.
Very quickly the mystery will unravel and you will realize you already know much of the history of this people. One notable one that will be mentioned shortly is noted above any other for the Plagues and Salvation his God, his Father worked in his day.

Egypt
There are monuments in Egypt that mention the Apiru people. One a stone carved wall on a womans tomb depicts men working at a wine press. At the bottom it is written “Straining wine by the Apiru. The dating is 1470 BCE. Scholars recognised the relationship between Apiru and Hebrew- The people of the Exodus.
From the same timeframe a correspondence from the Egyptian general Toth during the conquest of Joppa asks that his horses be taken into the city “lest they be stolen by passing Apir.”
Linguistic scholars have taken note of the similarities of Apir and Eber. The type of work and the dating and the interchangeable nature of the names; Apiru/Apiri/Apir-Hebiri/Hebiru-SA.GAZ
This has led to the conclusion that this is the one and the same Hebrew people of which we know Abraham was from.
From Apir the closeness to Eber/ Ever/ Ibri is too striking to discount.
“Shem, the father of all the children of ‘Ever…”

Or Shem the father of all the children of Ibri.
Or Numbers 26:45 “Of the sons of Beriah: of Heber, the family of the Heberites: of Malchiel, the family of the Malchielites”.
Even with the special status they held in the world which is easily seen in how rulers dealt with Abraham no one knew the name of the God of the children of Eber, father of the Hebrews until Moses. This is the same with the “sons of God” the Hebiri. With the ongoing intermarriage of some of the Habiri, it can be safely said all Hebrews are Habiri, but not all Habiri are Hebrew. Some had families with the peoples of the earth or married within the cultures they found themselves.
From here we can see that the Habiri did inhabit all strata of society from Josephs rule in Egypt to the Egyptian slaves they became. We can see the fear and awe of the world and the dread of Egypt in the Hebrew prophet Moses.
We can go back to Abraham and see those who sought from him a blessing as well as his sons. We can see the Melchi-Zedek, which is a title not a name, meaning the king/righteous high priest. We know in the days of Abraham that Shem still lived and it was God who granted him that priesthood in the blessing of Noah.
Another Habiri group emerges as the Israelites come out of Egypt. They chose not to stay with Moses. Their wanderings have been traced first to India and after centuries they went north through Eastern Europe. They are the Roma. We know them as Gypsies.
A shadow of this mystery still to a degree surrounds these peoples as both lawless brigands and mystical people.
Before the Hebrews or Habiri get to Caanan they come across another Habiru seer. His name is Baalam.
Numbers 24:15  “And he took up his parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor saith, And the man whose eye was closed saith;16  He saith, who heareth the words of God, And knoweth the knowledge of the Most High, Who seeth the vision of the Almighty, Falling down, and having his eyes open..”

If we are to believe the Scripture and documented history the only ones who worshipped this God were the children of Eber, mingled and unmingled the Hebiri.
As the Habiri enter into Caanan with Joshua , as if to punctuate it we have the El  Armana Letters from that time frame. The cities which Joshua conquered were under attack.
“See the deed which Milkilu and Shuwardata have done to the land of the king, my lord! They have the troops of Gezer, troops of Gath, and troops of Qeila. They have seized the land of Rubute. The land of the king has fallen away to the Habiri. And now, even a city of the Jerusalem district, Bit-nin-ib by name, a city of the king, has fallen away to the side of the people of Qeila. Let the king listen to Er-Heba, your servant, and send an army of archers that they might restore the land of the king to the king. For if there are no army of archers the land of the king will fall away to the Habiri”.
From here to those that study the subject David becomes the perfect Habiri King. All the traits are there.
So going forward…
It is my hope that you may re-read the Book of Hebrews for what it is. A primer on the history of the Sons of God. It is my hope when you look in the mirror you see one also.

While describing the Hebiri from the Sumer texts his source to push the myth never names them. Gilgimesh is also a Sumerian text from the period.

What does this mean?
The use of reconstructed texts means just that. Here is an example:

How many things can you choose to insert and say?
Although the breaks in text vary you get the point. The Book of Enoch is simply the most famous reconstructed text today.
