Bible Verse of the Day

John 11:25

“Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:”

We need to understand more in order to draw on a deeper point. In verse 14 we know Lazarus had passed away. In verse 15 Christ said, “And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.”

Now why would Christ be “glad” He was not there at Lazarus passing? Hold that thought. Verse 17 tells us Lazarus’ flesh body had been dead for four days. Now the smell would be great at this point, understanding that the flesh body is now wasting away.

In verse 21 Martha who was Lazarus sister said to Christ, “if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.” She knew Christ would have healed Lazarus and this is one of the reasons why Christ was “glad” He was not there. He wanted to prove a point as we will learn.

Christ would tell her, “Thy brother shall rise again. Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” Do not read over that. Martha’s belief was incorrect. Lazarus would not rise during the “resurrection” of the last day. That is a spiritual resurrection of the spiritually dead found in the great book of Revelation.

Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this,(John 11:25-26)?

Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior is telling Martha even though the flesh body of Lazarus is dead, Lazarus spirit is not dead. Christ is the resurrection and life, if we believe in Him, then we never die,  when our flesh body passes away instantly “shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it,” (Ecclesiastes 12:7).

This is why Christ was “glad” He was not there when Lazarus died. By resurrecting Lazarus He proved the point that we are not dead in a grave, rather we are alive and with our Father once our flesh body hits the dirt.

We continue to live and will do so forever if we follow Christ.
