Can we understand reality?

We (humans) have difficulties to understand reality, because we shun ambiguities. If we instead face the fundamental ambiguity of reality, we can understand reality. Reality is understandable as an interface between ambiguity and contradiction (actually described formally by Russell’s paradox).

This understanding doesn’t mean that we can describe what reality is, but just that we can describe how reality works. Unfortunately, this description can be specified only in mathematical terms, as it is in quantum mechanics and discrete mathematics. In a generic sense, reality is a probability between two states rather than a state.

So, how, then, can we understand reality? Well, the best understanding I can come up with is as a black hole consisting of structure like Russell’s paradox, attracting us into an orthogonal rotation that in practice is a circle for each participant. It so-to-say leads us around and around in an eternal merry-go-round.

This understanding gives rise to the question: can we escape this eternal merry-go-round? And, the answer is: yes we can. The problem with this escape is that it spells “compromise”. It thus requires abandonment of all beliefs, that is, of belief in a generic sense.

In summary, we can thus conclude that we’re caught in an eternal  merry-go-round, which we can only escape by abandoning all beliefs. The question is then: will it happen? That is, will all humans ever abandon all beliefs. The answer is no. This will never happen. It means that we’re doomed to circle between peace and war forever, never understanding reality.
