CaseFleet is case management software for attorneys. CaseFleet is also full-fledged law practice management software for attorneys—it depends on which version of the program you choose to buy. The lower-cost version is designed for lawyers who need to manage a case through the litigation lifecycle, while the higher-tier version adds standard practice management features like matter management, timekeeping, billing, and trust accounting.

Features

CaseFleet’s case management tools let a litigator add documents, contacts, settlement offers, witnesses, and issues.

The interface is a nice blend of drag and drop (so you can just import documents from your desktop directly), drop-down menus (so you’re forced to categorize material) and text boxes to free-form enter whatever you’d like.

CaseFleet’s signature feature is Timelines, which lets you build a fact chronology that incorporates sources of evidence, issues, contacts, facts, and whatever else you want to throw at it. Basically, by pulling together all your sources, CaseFleet creates an organizational scheme for all the far-flung material you accumulate when you’re putting together a case. It can help you build a literal timeline, but it also helps you figure out ways to arrange and filter your material.

CaseFleet also has a litigation-specific calendar that is pretty great. It lets you see the things you’d expect, like upcoming deadlines, but it really shines by letting you drill down to specific date periods, categories, and cases. It’s a neat way to see when you are about to hit a busy stretch or a bottleneck.

The higher-tier version of CaseFleet has a built-in customer relationship manager (CRM). It lets you keep track of leads and referral sources. It’s much more rudimentary than a powerhouse like Lexicata, but it should be adequate for lawyers that aren’t juggling hundreds of leads at a time.

With the practice management software tier, there’s also timekeeping, billing, invoicing, and trust accounting.

Security

CaseFleet lets you set two-factor authentication which, frankly, should be standard with all law practice management software.

With two-factor authentication, you need both a password and an additional code (usually sent to your phone) to log in to your account. This adds an extra—and critical—layer of security to your client data. CaseFleet encrypts your data both when it is traveling between your computer and theirs and when it is at rest on their server. You can export your data and make local backups at any time.

Pricing

CaseFleet lowest-tier plan is the Timelines Plan, at $29/month per user (or $24/month per user when billed annually), includes case management, timelines, a legal calendar, a settlement tracker, and a document manager. It is geared towards litigators who only need case management features or who use other legal practice management software for practice management and accounting.

For $49/month per user ($44/month per user when billed annually), the Firm Plan includes all the features of the Timelines version and adds practice management, billing, trust accounting, the CRM and time tracking. The Ultimate Plan, for $69/month per user ($64/month per user billed annually), is just the Firm Plan plus priority customer support. It’s difficult to see how the highest tier would be worth it unless you anticipate you’ll need a ton of software assistance.

Final Thoughts

Lawyers already invested in a law practice management software program that is inadequate for litigation management may find the lower-tier case management version of CaseFleet a useful and relatively inexpensive addition. If you are shopping around for all-purpose practice management software, CaseFleet is at an attractive price point. However, its standout features like Timelines and the legal calendar are definitely geared towards litigators. You can try CaseFleet free for 30 days without a credit card.
