From time to time I look at datasets to see how things are progressing. Often there is no news.
Snow cover change from mean, Tim’s method. Regime change assumed 1982, data split to show different linear change. Fall during the early years, flat thereafter.
Data is from the Rutgers university Global Snow Lab.
Not shown is how I have produced the change data. The Synth software in annual mode was used over three regimes where the annual variation is obviously different. Protest if you want.
As with plenty of other datasets there is a sharp change in data circa 2007. I have put this down to orbital geometry, satellites etc. change. In this case it ought to make no difference. Alternatively there have been very distinct changes on earth no-one has noticed.
The last time I looked at this data was 2013. Quite naturally I compared the data, oh dear.

This looks dramatic but actually has little effect. What are the authors doing? I have no idea
