India seems synonymous to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his political party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The proposal of LK Advani’s name for the next President of India further justifies the statement.

It is reported Modi proposed his name during a party meeting in Gujarat’s Somnath addressing at the Somnath Trust meeting in the presence of BJP national president Amit Shah and Keshubhai Patel.

Modi said the post of India’s second most coveted job would be a ‘guru dakshina’ for Advani.

LK Advani

Born as Lal Krishna Advani on 8 November 1927, the Indian politician led the ‘Rath Yatra’ in 1992 to Ayodhya from Somnath and his dream of becoming Prime Minister of the country could not be fulfilled.

The 89-year-old started his political career as a volunteer of right-wing Hindu nationalist organization, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Advani is one of the senior most leaders of BJP and from 1998 to 2004 he served as the Minister of Home Affairs in the NDA government. Between 2002 and 2004 he served as Deputy Prime Minister too under Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Advani was awarded with the Padma Vibhushan in 2015.
