Is Roman Concrete Similar to Martian Concrete?

“Roman concrete[edit]

The Romans made concrete by mixing lime and volcanic rock. For underwater structures, lime and volcanic ash were mixed to form mortar, and this mortar and volcanic tuff were packed into wooden forms. The seawater instantly triggered an exothermic chemical reaction. Lime (CaO) and volcanic ash are abundant in Martian soil (note 1). Volcanic minerals are abundant in unreal “mudstones and sandstones” in Gale Crater, Mars (notes 2,3).
