Indian Parliament Most Productive In Monsoon Session Since 2000

Today was the last day of Monsoon Session in Indian Parliament and it was highly productive since year 2000. About twenty bills were passed by both Houses and it is being calculated productivity of Lok Sabha was 118 per cent and of Rajya Sabha was 74 per cent.

The notable bills passed on the concluding day of Monsoon Session, which commenced on July 18 and provided seventeen sittings spread over a period of 24 days, were OBC Commission and the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Bill.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Vijay Goel said a total of 22 bills were passed from both the houses, 21 in Lok Sabha and 1 in Rajya Sabha. A no confidence motion against the government was also defeated with a good margin. During the Monsoon Session a total of 21 bills were passed in Lok Sabha and fourteen in the other house.

Goel added being a short session it was an achievement and it was most productive for the lower house for almost a decade.

Rajya Sabha Secretariat released a statement mentioning facility of simultaneous interpretation of the proceedings in all 22 languages listed in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution was too introduced in the Monsoon Session.

However, several hours were also lost this session and few of those were like discussion on issues like demand for Special Category Status for Andhra Pradesh and unaccounted deposits by Indians in Swiss banks.
