AIMPLB to file review petition against apex court’s Ram Janmabhoomi verdict

All India Muslim Personal Law Board and Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind together are paving ways to file a review petition against the recent Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid verdict of Supreme Court.

However, the Uttar Pradesh Sunni Central Waqf Board has distance itself from review petition measure. The same with Iqbal Ansari too who is the main litigant in the disputed site in Ayodhya.

Following a meeting in Lucknow the AIMPLB said that as per Sharia the mosque land cannot be given up and five-acre alternative land awarded by the apex court for the purpose cannot be accepted.

Claiming the verdict had several contradictions the AIMPLB added, “We neither balance equity no repair the damage caused.”

Former Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind General Secretary of Uttar Pradesh unit, M Siddiq, said the verdict is not based on evidence and logic.

Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind chief Maulana Arshad Madani said the Supreme Court accepted most of the evidence and arguments of Muslims parties but the judgment went against them.

He added the issue is not related to a prestige but it is a matter of Sharia and so the mosque cannot be given up as well as not taken anything in lieu of it.

If believed to sources, the working committee earlier was not in favor of filing a review petition and so formed a five-member panel to take the call.

AIMPLB secretary Zafaryab Jilani said the land belongs to Allah and it cannot be given to anybody under the Sharia.

AIMPLB believes the Sunni Waqf Board will respect its view.
