1 Way to Prepare Today: Mount a Flashlight Next To Your Bedside
I recommend that you have at least one flashlight per person in your household. Mount each person’s flashlight next to their bedside. If there’s an emergency in the middle of the night, everyone can find light immediately. And if something should happen before bedtime, everyone knows where their flashlight is. Label them if you wish to be super OCD about it. 
I just moved in to a little house of my own, so I don’t have a bedside table yet. But I DO have a flashlight mounted and at the ready. The mounting hardware is sold in packs of 2, so we split it up and use just one bracket per flashlight.
Do just this one thing and you’ll be more prepared for any emergency.
