Collect All Your Supplies

The list of supplies required for the procedure includes:

Aluminium fly screen framing
Frame corners
Spline
Insect Mesh
Mitre Box
Spline Roller
Hackshaw
Clips or turn buttons

Steps to Follow

Step 1

Carefully measure the recess of all the windows where you wish to install the flyscreens. Make sure you measure side to side and top to bottom of each frame and note down exact sizes. Later subtract about 2mm to 3mm from each side to allow fitting clearance.

Step 2

Cut about 45° miters at one end by making use of a miter box and the hackshaw. Then start your measurement from the long point. Keep the spline roller on the inside of the frame.

Step 3

Next you cut another miter on the same piece of framing using the miter box. Then repeat the same procedure for the remaining three sides.

Step 4

You then need to assemble the frame on the workbench by carefully pushing the frame corners right into the aluminium sections. Then test fit the frame in the window opening. If the fitting is too tight, fix it at this stage by simply disassembling it and cutting almost equal amounts off pairs of the frame members. Cut it according to the requirement.

Step 5

Place the frame on a plain surface. Now roll out the screen mesh right over the frame. Use a utility knife to cut the mesh such that 50 mm of it remains larger than the total frame.

Step 6

Now align the mesh in such a manner that it turns out to be parallel with the edges of the frame. Then by making use of your thumbs, carefully push the spline into the channel along one long edge by making sure that the mesh stays straight. By keeping one side in place, use the end of spline roller to push the corners in.

Step 7

Push the spline snug into the channel by following along the same line. Repeat the same and continue around the entire screen.

Step 8

Trim outside of the spline using a utility knife to give a neat finish.

Step 9

Place the screen in its place and carefully mark the positions of the turn buttons. Attach the screen with any suitable method and screw on the clips or buttons to secure and stand the frame in its place.
