The threat is comet fragments, not asteroids. No planet X comes whizzing thru the inner solar system. Jupiter would have ejected it long ago.

The rebirth of Venus is evidence of a near-collision. The surface of Venus is new. There are frozen chunks of its former atmosphere raining down upon the Earth every minute of every day. They are the small, dark comets discovered in the 1980s.
If you or the authors you read understood how the solar system works, you’d be able to explain Bode’s law, and you’d be able to explain why the spin of Venus is synchronized with Earth’s orbit around the Sun.
You’d be able to explain why our orbit remains stable, though we orbit the place where the center of mass used to be. –eight minutes ago.
And you’d be able to explain the changes in Earth’s tilt, recorded in history and evidenced by geology.

Jupiter doesn’t move the barycenter of the solar system very far, from the surface of the Sun.
Jupiter’s effect on Planet X is therefore tiny.
The Sun has an ultra tiny brown dwarf companion about half as big as Jupiter in a 4969 year orbit with eccentricity of about 0.54. This thing forms swarms of comet fragments in a nominal 3300 year orbit, but their period changes by about a few hundred years due this body’s presence in the outer solar system. These things strike Earth causing the Atlantis disaster about 9,703 years BC and Noah’s Great flood 3195 BC.
They will soon be threatening Earth once again.
