NASA’s Kepler Mission Discovers Bigger, Older Cousin to Earth
NASA’s Kepler mission has confirmed the first near-Earth-size planet in the “habitable zone” around a sun-like star. This discovery and the introduction of 11 other new small habitable zone candidate planets mark another milestone in the journey to finding another “Earth.”
The newly discovered Kepler-452b is the smallest planet to date discovered orbiting in the habitable zone — the area around a star where liquid water could pool on the surface of an orbiting planet — of a G2-type star, like our sun. The confirmation of Kepler-452b brings the total number of confirmed planets to 1,030.
“On the 20th anniversary year of the discovery that proved other suns host planets, the Kepler exoplanet explorer has discovered a planet and star which most closely resemble the Earth and our Sun,” said John Grunsfeld, associate administrator of NASA’s Science Mission Directorate at the agency’s headquarters in Washington. “This exciting result brings us one step closer to finding an Earth 2.0.”
For someone like me that is fascinated with space its not suprising to learn of the 1,030th earth like planet in the “goldielocks region” around a star similar to our sun. What gets me is all of the space news that is coming at once.
Just the other day i posted an article here about the announcement the Prof. Stephen Hawkings was teaming up with Russian billionaire Yuri Milner in a project costing $100million dollars that will last for the next 10 years searching space for alien communications and life using cutting edge new technology from Silicon Valley.

Wow, we haven’t gotten a single non-animated footage from NASA in all of human history. Our live feeds of space stations are extremely CG, and they regularly turn it off after showing a tiny object appear in the distance to promote a never ending army of lunatics claiming it was an alien.

Stephen hawking along with other famed scientist are doing a survey right now of the 100 of the closest habitable planets close to earth. Personally if we look back in history an read about all the times we visited new parts of our world an the damage we caused, should we be doing this, and entering other species planets! what so we can kill, rape, destroy and start another war and strip there earth of the exotic minerals we want. I dont agree with this. Especially with corporations taking over the space age. That tells you everything.
