Fantasy owners got a little too cute sitting Cam Newton against a San Francisco 49ers defense that looked rejuvenated against the L.A. Rams. If you were one of those guys—you weren’t too happy. Newton gashed the 49ers, finishing as the top quarterback in fantasy with 353 yards passing and 4 touchdowns. Safe to say if anyone worried about Newton after the season opener, those worries can be put to rest. Goal Line Backs Just because a player looks bad on the field, doesn’t mean they’ll be bad in fantasy. New England Patriots running back LeGarette Blount benefited from an injury to starting quarterback Jimmy Garrapolo finishing with 123 yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, the poor man’s Blount, Isaiah Crowell rushed for 133 yards and a touchdown. Fantasy owner’s worries over Cleveland phasing out Crowell have been severely overstated. It looks like Crowell is taking the Jeremy Hill role while Duke Johnson is the Gio Bernard in Hue Jackson’s system.
