419px-Wake_Forest_University_Seal.svg_Good evening, Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) fans.  Hope you are all doing well.

Make sure you check out the ACC coverage here at @AllSportsDACC.  @TalkinACCSports (Jeffrey Fann) and I have been cranking out a lot of material out there in the blogosphere.

Today, Wake Forest lost to Army.  While this was a disappointing loss for the Demon Deacons (because they should have defeated Army – it was an ugly showing on Homecoming h/t @Robert_Reinhard), the chance for bowl eligibility is still alive.

At 5-3 overall, Wake Forest has a couple of really good opportunities for wins.  The Demon Deacons have Virginia and Clemson at home – and have Boston College and Louisville in the road.

I could see an 0-4 finish in that group of games (and no bowl eligibility – or a chance at a bowl waiver with a 5-7 record), a 1-3 record (with a win vs. Boston College or Virginia – and probably Virginia since it’s a home game – and that would give the Deacons an automatic bowl game), or a 2-2 record (with wins vs. Virginia and Boston College – and a potential Military Bowl Bid).

The problem for Wake Forest that their defense can only do so much; their offense actually has to show up (the offense is dreadfully bad at 120th in the country).  This is surprising to me as Dave Clawson coached teams have generally been able to move the ball – that’s not the case this year or last year.

I feel like I’m taking about Virginia Tech here in the Bryan Stinespring and Scot Loeffler years – Wake Forest doesn’t need a top 20 offense – it just needs to be top 65, but it’s not going to get there this year.

Wake is going to need a bad performance from Virginia and/or Boston College to get to a bowl game – and will need to play much better than they did vs. Army today.
