Jets quarterback legend Joe Namath apologized Tuesday for ripping Geno Smith after the quarterback sustained a knee injury in Sunday’s win over the Ravens, Darryl Slater of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Here is Namath’s apology on Twitter:
“@GenoSmith7 My bad Geno. In the dark ages we players had the say. I hope you heal and play as long as you choose! Joe”
Smith injured his right knee in the second quarter Sunday. He did not return to the game. On Sunday, Namath criticized Smith for not returning. But then, on Monday, an MRI revealed Smith had torn his ACL. Namath’s criticism happened well before the official diagnosis of a torn ACL, but it was foolish nonetheless.
