The Seahawks have released veteran running back C.J. Spiller according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.
The Seahawks signed Spiller in September for depth after injuries to second-year running back Thomas Rawls and passing-down back C.J. Prosise but the veteran was able to produce just 51 yards and a touchdown on eight touches during his month-long stay in Seattle. He was lkely expecting to get the ax when the team made him a healthy inactive against the Arizona Cardinals Sunday night now that Prosise has recovered from his broken hand.
The bottom has fallen out of a career which began with such promise as the No.9-overall pick in the 2010 draft by the Buffalo Bills. Spiller never really lived up to those lofty expectations but did have a few good years in Buffalo. Now 29, he will look for another backup job elsewhere.
The Seahawks used Siller’s roster spot to re-sign fullback Will Tukuafu.
