In a conference with quarterbacks Lamar Jackson, Deshaun Watson, Jerod Evans, Mitch Tribusky, Eric Dungey, Deondre Francois, and Brad Kaaya among others, Georgia Tech’s Justin has gotten lost in the shuffle. The senior has been the heart and soul of Georgia Tech football for the last few years. He just never quits, and he’s usually at his best when the game is the on line. Remember he was also under center in 2014, when Georgia Tech won 11 games, won the Orange Bowl, and finished in the season in the top 10.
I said this back in early September when Justin Thomas led Georgia Tech to a game winning 4th quarter drive against Boston College.
Here comes QB Justin Thomas who has done this before. He’s led critical 4th quarter under 5 minute drives to win or tie games against Georgia Southern, Georgia, Virginia Tech, and Florida State. Thomas made play after play in the decisive drive. He converted a 4th and 19. He converted a 3rd and 10. Georgia Tech got inside the BC and cashed in for the win.
Add another special 4th quarter to the list. Georgia Tech was reeling. At one point up 28-7, the Yellow Jackets defense fell apart. I’m mean completely apart and the Yellow Jackets with 9 minutes left in the game were down 35-31. Justin Thomas took control and led the Yellow Jackets to a go ahead TD. Then Georgia Tech got the ball back and faced a 3rd and 17. If Duke gets the ball back they are probably tying or taking the lead. Georgia Tech’s defense was helpless in the 2nd half. Justin Thomas did what he has so many times during his Georgia Tech career, he made a critical play – running the for the first down.
He finished the game with a whopping 459 yards of offense and 4 total TDs. He threw for 264 yards and ran for another 195. He literally carried Georgia Tech to the win, and kept the Yellow Jackets bowl hopes alive as they moved to 5-3.
This isn’t a great Georgia Tech team. It really isn’t even a good one, but it is better than last year and Justin Thomas is still the quarterback. He gives Georgia Tech a chance in just about every game they play in. Georgia Tech is probably out of the Coastal race, but a bowl game is in sight. It would be great to see the underappreciated Thomas, finish his Georgia Tech with a post-season game and possible win.
