It shouldn’t surprise you that a New York Yankee didn’t get a Rookie of the Year award, but it’s disappointing if you live in the New York area and saw Gary Sanchez play this season. Turns out although he was a finalist for Rookie of the Year, he didn’t win it. Instead, Tigers pitcher Michael Fulmer did.
Many are reporting this, but we’ll go with the New York Times here with a unique nugget:
“…Sanchez had an even better O.P.S. for the Yankees (1.032), but he played in only 53 games. His production in that time (a .299 average with 20 home runs) helped the Yankees mount a playoff push even after they dealt away veterans, but Fulmer’s body of work made him the easy winner.
