The Hogs returned home with a bang last night, after spending the last 2 weeks on the road. They shutout the Charlotte Checkers 3-0. Rockford’s Brendon Mashinter tallied a natural Hat Trick, scoring all 3 of the IceHogs’ goals for the game. This year, there is a total of 3 former IceHogs players on the Checkers team…Michael Leighton(G), Dennis Robertsson(D) and Kyle Hagel(F). The IceHogs’ played a special video salute to Leighton during the 1st frame, to welcome him back. Ironically, the Hogs scored on him very shortly after the video played. Three Stars of the Game…#1 Brandon Mashinter, #2 Lars Johansson and #3 Michael Leighton. Point of interest, Hockey Legend, Chris Chelios, was in the house last night. After the game, he turned down autograph hounds who waited outside near the visitors’ bus. He told them “Guys, my kid will sign for you”. In other words, he was there as a father and wanted that attention redirected to his son Jake, who’s a defenseman for the Checkers. Next home game is this afternoon at the BMO Harris Bank Center in Rockford, as the Hogs host the Ontario Reign for the very first time. Puck drops at 4:00pm. 8v8a6276 8v8a6311 8v8a65418v8a6317 8v8a6352 8v8a6599 8v8a6711 8v8a6771 8v8a6869 8v8a6881 8v8a6898 8v8a6420
