The wait is finally over and the outcome is exactly what we hoped for. Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant was named the 2016 NL MVP on Thursday night, earning 29 of the possible 30 first place votes. Just a year ago the 24-year-old was named the NL Rookie of the Year and now he follows it up with a 2016 season that includes a MVP and World Series trophy. Bryant hit .292 with 39 home runs and 102 RBI for the champion Cubs. That included .292/.385/.554 as he beat out Daniel Murphy and Corey Seager for the award. Bryant also becomes the first Cubs player since Sammy Sosa in 1998 to win the NL MVP award. He’s the 11th player in franchise history to win the award. The accomplishment is just the latest in his short career which includes winning the Golden Spikes Award (2013), Minor League Player of the Year (2014), NL Rookie of the Year (2015), two All-Star Game appearances and a World Series title.
