It’s infuriating when your first round pick is playing bad and giving you next to no fantasy production. However, it’s even more infuriating when that player is actually playing well but is trapped on a bad offense, imprisoning them and their fantasy value. In the Week 10 edition of the 4 Downs we’ll look at four players: Two players who fit the description mentioned above (who I have labelled ‘trapped players’) and two players who have overcome their offense’s inefficiencies (‘happy players’). 1st Down | Trapped Gurley One such man who embodies all that is a trapped player is Los Angeles Rams runningback Todd Gurley. Gurley’s struggles this season have been well documented yet what we perceive as struggling is in fact what must be inordinate frustration for Gurley himself. What I’m referring to is that Gurley is the exact same player he was last year when he was the RB5 despite missing 3 games, running for over 1000 yards and winning Offensive Rookie of the Year. The Rams passing attack, while bad last year, has completely collapsed this season and defenses have keyed in on this. With Case Keenum at the helm, the Rams offense poses no passing threat [...]
