The Vikings placed offensive tackle Jake Long on injured reserve Tuesday and replaced him on the roster with undrafted rookie tackle Rashod Hill, Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer-Press reports.
Hill, a native of Jacksonville, Fla., was on the Jaguars practice squad.
A source said the Jaguars tried to sign Hill to the 53-man roster after the Vikings first expressed interest on Monday, but he deemed Minnesota a better opportunity.
Long suffered a season-ending torn left Achilles tendon injury in Sunday’s 26-20 loss at Washington. He tweeted Tuesday a picture of himself on a plane and wrote, “Flying out to get surgery. Time to get this done.”
The 6-foot-6, 309-pound Hill has yet to appear in an NFL game and is considered by some to be a late bloomer. He went to Southern Mississippi and wasn’t invited to the combine in February. He signed with the Jaguars as a free agent.
