I didn’t see it coming, but any time you stockpile arms right around this time of year is a good thing. It’s about variety and numbers to see what these pitchers can offer. Throw in a minor league deal and it’s just about a no-brainer.
The Yankees have signed lefty pitcher Jon Niese. It’s a minor league deal. Joel Sherman of the New York Post has the story in this tweet here:
I hear Jon Niese is taking a physical with #Yankees and if all is OK, he will sign a minor league contract

Nice. Now Bill Baer of Hardball Talk writes this of Niese as of recently:

“Niese, 30, pitched for the Pirates and Mets last season, finishing with a 5.50 ERA and an 88/47 K/BB ratio over 121 innings.”
Whatever the case, we will see what happens. Maybe he can offer something… maybe not, but this is what you do now. Try and find guys to help out.
Rolling the dice…
