Today: The Pirates take a road trip to visit the Phillies at Spectrum Field in Clearwater. The game will be webcast (audio) at

Lineup (starters): Adam Frazier 2B, Phil Gosselin SS, Josh Bell 1B, John Jaso RF, Jose Osuna LF, Elias Diaz C, Eric Wood 3B, Eury Perez CF and Tyler Glasnow P. Fraze and Goose up the middle.

Pitchers: Tyler Glasnow, Steven Brault, and Pat Light. Glasnow is running out of chances while Brault has an opening to impress with Hutch’s poor outing yesterday.

Yesterday’s Games: The Bucs dropped an 8-6 decision to the O’s as they fell quickly in the hole after Hutch was hammered in his first poor start of the spring. Tyler Webb gave up a couple of more runs in the eighth, and the Bucco bats couldn’t overcome the onslaught. Oddly, nobody on either team had more than one RBI. The Buc bats were led by Alen Hanson who had three knocks and Austin Meadows & Danny Ortiz with a pair of raps. Erich Weiss went deep. In the “B” game, Trevor Williams tossed four innings (66 pitches) and was tagged for a solo shot in a pretty good outing against an Oriole lineup with Chris Davis, Mark Trumbo, JJ Hardy and Pedro Alvarez. (No final scorecard was released as it was a six-frame exhibition.)

  • The Pirates optioned IF Chris Bostick to Indy and assigned IF Erich Weiss to minor league camp yesterday, whittling the roster to 51 players.
  • Tom Prince will manage today; Clint is attending a funeral.

  • Cutch was bounced from last night’s US loss to Puerto Rico for griping over a called third strike. He was probably right, too, tho he made his point once too often. The USA and DR meet tonight, with the winner moving on and the loser going home.
  • Steelers coach Mike Tomlin visited camp yesterday, an annual tradition. He eyed up Jared Hughes as potential Black and Gold material last spring and opined that he could make a gridder of Josh Bell this year.
