Brigance Hosting Championship Race

From his playing days at Rice University to lining up in purple on Sundays, Ravens Senior Advisor to Player Development O.J. Brigance is no stranger to overcoming adversity.

The beloved Brigance has captured the hearts and attentions of fellow players and fans alike for his work ethic both on the field and off. Ask around the castle in Owings Mills about O.J. and smiles will fill those faces in their responses.

As most are aware, in 2007, the former linebacker was diagnosed with ALS. Since, Brigance has been fighting daily to improve the quality of life for those suffering with the disease and their families by providing access to support services, needed equipment, and resource guidance. His Brigance Brigade Foundation equips, encourages and empowers people living with ALS.

O.J. and his wife Chanda announced that registration is now open for the 4th annual 5.7K Championship Race & 1.57 Mile Family Run/Walk on April 30, 2017. The event will not only be celebrating the kick-off of ALS Awareness Month (May) but also the 10-year anniversary of the founder’s ALS diagnosis.

“If anyone had told us when O.J. was diagnosed that 10 years later he would not only be thriving, but we would be hosting our fourth running festival to support families battling ALS, I’m not sure I would have believed them,” said Chanda, co-founder of the Brigance Brigade Foundation. “We have struggled through our dark days like anyone else, but my husband’s incredible strength and perseverance, as well as our faith, have brought us here and we are so blessed to be celebrating another year of the helping people fighting ALS.”

The family-oriented event features something for everyone, including three running events in honor of the former Ravens player who donned number 57. There will be a timed 5.7K run, a 1.57 mile family run/walk, and a Kids’ Fun Run for youth ages 8 and under.

After the races, participants are invited to spend the morning at the event’s Celebration Village which will feature music, snacks and beverages for purchase, harbor views, vendor tables and tents, and a Kids’ Fun Zone.
