Mission Impossible

I truly have nothing else to say but that we are in a 911, Mission Impossible mode.  We are three games down in the four-game Red Sox series in Fenway and who knows what awaits us tonight as we face off in the ESPN game.  It could be a broom, which kicks August into a true Mission Impossible thriller.

As ESPN so boldly wrote yesterday, “As they continue to trudge through a second half that so far has been defined by mediocrity — they are 6-8 since the All-Star break — the odds of them winning the division and locking up a postseason spot that won’t require a one-game playoff are looking slimmer and slimmer.”

I don’t agree with the writer’s third paragraph where he describes the Yankees as “outclassed by the Boston Red Sox,” but I do feel the pressure mounting as the race gets tighter and teams across the entire league fight harder for the one Wild Card spot.

Yet, there is a bright spot that could potentially, turn things around and make the Mission Impossible, possible.  “Things look bad for the Yankees right now. Really bad. But thanks to a soft August schedule, the Yankees will get healthy on the field and in the standings. By mid-September, the AL East standings will once again be within a few games,” reports NJ.com.  And from the looks of their schedule, NJ.com could be on to something.  We head to Chicago to face the White Sox Monday night and then back in New York to host the Rangers followed by the Rays and Blue Jays.  We could pick up some much needed games and hopefully, Aaron Judge will be on the mend and J.A. Happ will back in the rotation.

As SNY warns, “The time is now for the Yankees to make their push, especially with a tougher September in the future. New York will look to set the tone against the Red Sox, and more importantly, reverse their trend against inferior foes immediately after.” Let’s hope tonight is the first night of the turnaround leading into a week of wins.  Fingers crossed.
