Entertainment Company Owner: 'It's magnificent'

WASHINGTON—New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts performed to a sold-out Kennedy Opera Center the evening of Saturday, Jan. 23.

Mrs. McNally, originally from Brazil and owner of a music entertainment company, came to the show with her husband, a chiropractic doctor.

"It's the first time I've seen it, and it's magnificent—all the costumes, the way the artists perform, all the dancers [are] very fit, and they did really, really well,” said Mrs. McNally.

"I really enjoy Chinese history and culture and I really like the traditional and classical part of the Chinese art and culture in general. So, in comparison to the modern dance that we saw a long time ago, this is by far … an amazing, outstanding performance."

Mrs. McNally also took home a cultural message from the show. “Life is always enriched by culture," she said. "To me it was very unforgettable.

“I'm just very happy that Chinese culture is [opening] right now …[through Shen Yun] to the Western world because before it was closed up, and we wouldn't know about it. And learning what and where you come from, the rich cultures you have, the rich history, and the beauty, also the martial arts. Also I really like the way, [the host] spoke Mandarin. It's like signing to me, and it's really beautiful,” she said.

Dr. McNally said: “I have a personal belief, that if people understood reincarnation, if we understood that we come from these diverse lifetimes, we would understand ourselves better, and each other better. So, it's very gratifying to see the reincarnation principle expressed from a cultural perspective. And I think it's so important to know in the United States—we don't have that at all. But, if we got that [belief], we would understand that we have been in all kinds of cultures and races. And then we would all have a deep understanding of each other. So I was gratified to see that come up."

Dr. McNally concluded with hope for the future. “I think if China, and I don't know if this is true, but if China and the Chinese people truly can embody and live [by the principles demonstrated by Shen Yun], then they can express something different than what we see from our culture here.”
