I decided to go to Walmart and purchase Mass Effect 2 at midnight. By the time I got home I was filled with anticipation to play the continuation of the Mass Effect trilogy. Once I turned on the game and clicked “New Game” I was greeted with a nice screen telling me I can import my old Mass Effect 1 character into Mass Effect 2. “Sweet”, I said as I eagerly selected my old character.

When you choose which character you want to import it gives you a brief synopsis of what that character did in Mass Effect 1. After confirming my import I was greeted with a very long loading screen. My assumption is that this screen was so long because it had to migrate all my information over. While I watched the long load screen I was far from bored. Beautiful graphics, stats, and animations kept me busy through the whole thing and I was kind of disappointed when the game finished loading.

Next comes a screen with all of your vital choices during your character’s adventures in Mass Effect. As I read all of it my reaction was either, “Yea that sounds familiar”, “I wonder what my choices were” or “Wtf? I don’t remember doing that at all”. Finally the intro cinematic loads and I am slightly confused with what is going on. In most sequels this wouldn’t bother me, I know I would quickly pickup on what is going on, but Mass Effect 2 felt different to me. I needed to know the missing details on what happened in Mass Effect 1.

While searching for plot summaries and character information I found quite a few interesting resources that I think any Mass Effect fan should read before they play Mass Effect 2.
