Sundance and YouTube Bringing Films to Your Home

YouTube has chosen five films from Sundance Film Festival to sell for $3.99 a piece. But not everyone can download them, in mny countries they are not available.

The National Ledger has more.

Ready to rent movies online from YouTube? The video sharing website now has five films from the Sundance Film Festival available from the video sharing site as they begin their venture into the movie rental business, according to CNN.

"For a lot of the films that go through the festival, the most attention they receive is those 10 days for the festival," said the festival's programming director, Trevor Groth. "Now that the technology [like video on demand] is available for these filmsβ€”why not make them accessible?"

The movies will be available for a limited time and only to rent until the end of this month.  The five films are are "Bass Ackwards," "The Cove," "One Too Many Mornings," "Homewrecker" and "Children of Invention."

According to the YouTube blog:

"Independent filmmakers have been critical contributors to our platform ever since we launched our site, almost five years ago. In that time, we’ve increasingly come to understand some of the challenges facing these filmmakers: technology has made it easier and cheaper than ever to produce films; more films have led to more competition for audiences; more competition for audiences has led to more films needing massive marketing budgets to cut through the clutter. And these high costs have made it difficult for independent films to compete, leaving too many films going unseen."
