According to me, an avid music lover.
1. The Avalanches - Since I Left You: This album was made by a collective of Australian DJs. According to Wikipedia, this album has more samples than any other CD. Absolutely mind-boggling array of sounds. This decade's "Entroducing..."
2. Animal Collective- Strawberry Jam - The indie supergroup's stand out release this decade. They've had many but this one was the best.
3. Gas - Pop - This on the other hand is a masterpiece of modern classical music. At first listen, it sounds like its not going anywhere. On the second listen, subtle shifts in the sonic texture start to emerge. On the third listen, entire worlds open up within each track. Absolutely stunning release.
4. Madvillain - Madvillainy - Hip hop should be fun. Madlib and MF DOOM reject the traditional 3 - 4 minute hip hop track in favor of short bursts of freeform rhyming and eclectic sampling. Madlib truly is a master "loop digga."
5. Yagya - Rigning - Iceland seems to produce some quite talented musicians from such a small population. Yagya's Aðalsteinn Guðmundsson is one of the lesser known artitsts from the island nation. His craft, however, is unmistakable. Sheer beauty shines through the tracks on his third release.
6. Modest Mouse - Moon and Anarctica - All the pent up angst of Ithaqua, Washington residents Modest Mouse is fully released on what many consider to be their masterpiece album.
7. Mum- Yesterday was dramatic, today is OK - Icelandic band Mum has a knack for combining seemingly opposide instrumentation with electronic glitchery.
8. Sufjan Stevens- Illinois - It seems like in recent memory, the singer-songwriters in the world have gained less prominence. The concept album about Illinois is well... about Illinois. A welcome return to the singer-songwriter genre.
9. Yasume - Where we're from, the birds sing a pretty song - A relatively obscure release, Yasume's only album contains some of the most hauntingly beautiful electronic music released this decade.
10. cLOUDDEAD - cLOUDDEAD - More odd sampling mayhem. Each song contains several songs within themselves. Not really hip hop but more a stream of consciousness mindtrip.
11. Deltron 3030 - Deltron 3030
12. Pulshar - Brotherhood
13. Animal Collective - Sung Tongs
14. Loscil - First Narrows
15. LCD Soundsystem - LCD Soundsystem
16. Helios - Unomia
17. Cannibal Ox - The Cold Vein
18. Echospace - The Coldest Season
19. Burial - Untrue
20. Ghostface Killah - Supreme Clientele
21. Rhythm and Sound - W/ The Artists
22. Mr. Lif - I, Phantom
23. Fluxion - Vibrant Forms II
24. Yo La Tengo - And Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out
25. Soundtrack to 'Oh Brother, Where Art Thou'
