After two days of searching, a Washington state police shot and killed Maurice Clemmons, who allegedly shot four police in Tacoma.
In a recent CBS report, Clemmons was seen in a stolen car at approximately 2:45 a.m. and the officer shot the suspect several times.
"He wouldn't stop," [Assistant Police Chief Jim] Pugel said. "The officer fired several rounds."
"This is a tragedy," said interim Seattle Police Chief John Diaz. "Nobody feels good about any of this."
After shooting him dead, police found Clemmons had a gun belonging to one of the murdered officers and a serious gunshot wound from the coffee shop shootout.
Clemmons had some "bizarre encounters" with churchgoers and with Bishop Bernard Jordan in New York state. According to the NY Daily News:
Seattle cop-killer Maurice Clemmons drove across the country to New York in June to see a Manhattan minister, declaring God told him to make the trip.
He disturbed a June 13 prayer service, trying to rush the stage and yelling.
The next day, he approached Bishop Bernard Jordan at a gala banquet to say he was on the lam from the police.
"Then he said he was Jesus. I was kind of shocked," Jordan told the Daily News.
