Spring Fever Or Lonliness?

Its really starting to bother me… Maybe this is the next stage in my recovery??

I don’t know if its a version of spring fever (wanting to get out and do things and be with people after being holed up for too long indoors) or if I’m genuinely lonely. Now that the anxiety has calmed down, another need emerges to the surface of my consciousness and demands to be addressed! No rest for the weary I guess.

Cat and Sharn are around, of course– but both work and run errands and have their own social lives in which I am included only occasionally. Which is fair and understandable and I don’t want to be a whiny, needy, clinging child to them. However, I have been finding excuses to hang out and talk to them more due to my need for human interaction. I love my alone time– but when they are home I have to pull back from bugging them too much.

I know it is time to find something outside of home to do. There is the library I’ll start going to soon- but that is a non-social activity. I’ll see people, but there is not a lot of meet n’ greets at a library.

I’m trying to think of where I could go to find people to start to get to know. I would find work if my flares would die down, but that doesn’t seem likely at this point. Maybe a club? I’m not Xtian, so church is out of the question. Rotary and such are full of old people, and that’s not what I’m looking for… I prefer people my age or younger to socialize with because I like things lively. Not all of the elderly are boring, but most of their organized activities are not appealing to me.

Hmm… maybe a wine tasting club? I’m into that. I’d like to do hiking but I can’t walk very far yet (again, the flares keep screwing up my getting into shape.) Historical societies are great– but again, too many old people. I could try support groups for my various and sundry issues…

All I know is that now that summer is here, I feel a deep compulsion to move out of my safe comfort zone and meet some people. I want to have local friends to hang with every once in a while. I am still coordinating visits to friends in Portland area, but it is difficult to get everything to line up right.

Sigh…
