      Pretty comprehensive list. You forgot field guide to edible plants, medicines like insulin, antiseizure etc.

      It could come to this. We shouldn’t count on Carlos or Tyrone, the FEMA reps, to help us out much, unless we have gold or silver to bribe them with.

      Plastic grocery bags. Great for taking a dump in. Claymore mines. When the hoards know you have plenty, they will be coming your way by the hundreds. If you don’t have those you can throw those grocey bags full of you know what at them. Most likely, any new National Emergency and the chance to use your items will be taken away by some laws that you cannot have those items. Just like you won’t be able to grow your own food. That is coming here shortly. Not even wild tomatoes in your own backyard.

      Afraid your noisy generator will attract trouble?

      In the military we used to sound-proof ours:

      ¤ Dig a hole as deep as the generator is high
      -be sure to leave enough space for access;

      ¤ Stack sandbags around this hole (about 4 layers)
      -in areas with troublesome ground you can compensate with more;

      ¤ Place generator in hole. (That’s all!)

      This channels the sound upwards, you have to walk up to the generator or fly above it to hear it. You can be literally standing about 10 feet next to it without noticing anything!

    • Sequentis

      I think you listed more than a hundred things? Some numbers have more than one item in it.

    • Anonymous

      A buddy of mine had a natural gas generator. When the power goes off it automatically switches over. But you could hear it. I used to ask him what he thought would happen after about 3 weeks when he and his family was doing the Norman Rockwell turkey dinner scene with the generator running. When the power goes out those generators are all you can hear. Solar would be better.

    • Decode the World

      Ah yes, the Norman Rockwell turkey dinner scene with the generator running three weeks into a grid down situation. That’s when Mad Max bangs down the front door and carts the whole thing back to the Thunderdome.

      Fear and greed are gears in the mechanism of survival.

      Of course, this may be instinctive to humans… knowing just how precarious their little civilization is and how little upset it would take to tip it all back to horse & buggy, oxen & plows, wooden ships & sails.

    • Anonymous

      Redoubt. That would be okay with me. Horse & buggy, oxen & plows, wooden ships & sails. Then our skies would be free of Chemtrails. There would be no more going to war for the so-called sake of another county. No more reason for having an automobile, so that again would help clear our skies and would also be another reason not to go into another country and destroy it for their oil and gas reserves. Do away with the MSM and televisions so that there won’t be anymore couch potatoes. That way, over the next 100 years the forests could grow back and the wild animals could again increase in number. You have a great idea going. When can we put it into affect?

    • It's Me Again

      “Sequentis” you are an idiot ! Only a fool would be that legalistic, you’ll be part of the problem when things go bad. If you’re serious then I feel sorry for you, you won’t last long.

      Even if you don’t use some of the items on this list they can be traded later on for things you do need. Collect anything you can get your hands on.

      Guns, ammo and a really good water filter should be at the top of eveyone,s list. Everyone has their own ideas about what is the most important to them.
      The really important thing is that we all need to be prepared as much as possible at all times and we really should be willing to help someone out if they need it and can’t do it on their own, they maybe able to help you someday when you need it.

    • PeterSun

      yea 97 is pretty important, chewing gum….can live without it.

    • Anonymous

      Actually you could add (1-A) to the list. —-Inane fear mongering web sites will be the first thing to disappear.

    • Anonymous

      Oh my God! I have none of these things. I do have a shot gun loaded. But I won’t use that unless it is those from the government coming to check my back yard for me growing some of my own food.

    • Redoubt

      Shotguns are like wildcards… you’re good ;)

    • Anonymous

      A mirror would be good for signaling for help. Also, a magnifying glass would help in starting a fire when other sources won’t work.
      A Bible will help restore hope and encourage people. Lastly, having a heart to serve others less fortunate may include your neighbor who lost everything and has nothing set aside for survival. This is a good article. Thank you.
