The ongoing drought and virtual loss of the corn crop will affect virtually all food groups, and also gasoline (all grades now use ethanol, produced from corn). WHAT CAN WE DO ? Stock up on food NOW ! Every time you shop, buy a few extra items with long shelf life – Honey , canned goods, dry food (beans, rice), etc…! All you can do is move to a better State, get to know your neighbors, learn to raise your own food, form a group etc… prepare for the worse and hope for the best

How to can dry goods:
Dry Goods: Pasta, Rice, Flour, cereals, etc..anything you have to cook in water or with water, you can easily can.
Use Ball or Kerr Jars. 1 quart are best.
Wash jars in hot soapy water, rinse, let dry. Preheat oven 225 F, place jars on cookie sheet and leave in for 10 minutes.
You will be pouring the dry goods in hot jars, so use oven mitts to remove jars from oven and place on sturdy surface.
Lower oven temperature to 200 F. Any hotter, it will burn dry goods.
Cleanly pour pasta, rice, beans, etc into jars to the brim. Place jars back into 200 F oven. Heat for 1 hour. Carefully take out one jar at a time, wipe with clean cloth around mouth of jar and place the canning lid on and slightly tighten. Place jar in cooling area–not cold area (will break the jar). Let cool slowly and wait for the “pop” of the lid sealing. If lid does not seal, repeat process.
Repeat for each batch. Same for pints.
This, I was told, will keep the dry goods for up to 20years. This is great way to store your emergency food cheaply.
