NBC News: “Stock Up On Canned Goods”
On May 31, 2013 asteroid 1998-QE2 will be passing earth at a distance of approximately 3.6 million miles. The asteroid, believed to be a remnant of a comet, is about 1.7 miles, making it big enough to be a “global killer” should it ever strike earth. But because its trajectory puts it at about 15 times further away from the earth than the moon, astronomers say there’s no chance it’ll hit our planet on this pass.
NBC Nightly News, however, has advised viewers to get ready for 1998-QE2′s imminent fly-by:

While scientists think it’s a safe distance – in other words what could go wrong – it’s probably best to stock up on canned goods none the less.

As noted by Steve Quayle earlier this week, four massive fireballs within a 24 hours period were spotted over different parts of the United States according to the American Meteor Society. And just last week we received reports from NASA that they recorded the largest meteorite strike on the moon in about a decade – an event that was coordinated with parallel strikes on earth during the same time period.
It’s clear that 1998-QE2 will miss earth by a fairly significant distance, so there is no threat from a direct impact. But, with our limited ability to monitor the skies for asteroid threats, it’s theoretically possible, though not confirmed, that there are companion objects moving along with 1998-QE2.
Emergency planners have been simulating the possibility of an asteroid strike on earth in recent years, so it’s not out of the question that such a scenario could unfold in the future.
Chances are it won’t happen on May 31, 2013. But, of course, were a massive asteroid headed our way it would, in all likelihood, be kept a secret from the citizens of earth until the last minute.
Whatever the case, it’s always good practice to have some canned goods on hand, along with other preparedness items that include reserve water considerations, self defense armaments, and other critical supplies.

Isn’t food storage one of the signs of a potential terrorist? What exactly is NBC advocating here? Stocking up on canned goods might help, if one could get a two years supply. Even a smallish hundred meter companion asteroid could knock out a growing season or two. A quarter miler, certainly. That 1.7 mile one? don’t bother since the odds of surviving are minimal, particularly considering the state of the world a few years after impact when the skies finally clear.

Just reviewed vid again here, the ‘invasion’ graphic was blurred (likely on purpose) by the other tube poster, different version that here. Clearly the ‘invasion’ graphic I mentioned above is simply reference to the cicadas, which buggers were not easily seen in the other tube. So no subliminal here. I missed the NBC news story, but I agree with the idea to be prepared. Not so much for this asteroid and it’s trajectory places it outside and away from Earth’s orbital plane. Still there is a small potential and an almost certainty that any debris from the close asteroid will fall towards the Sun and to get there, the the debris will have to cross Earths path around the Sun.
C/2012 S1 is a bigger concern and NASA has already issued a meteor shower warning. Meteor showers are caused by comets. Haley’s Comet, Swift-Tuttle and many others produce yearly showers. The difference between these two and C/2012 S1 is age. Haley ans Swift have had many close approaches in their time and the debris left over may have had millions of years to dissipate to a level where we get 40-60 meteors per hour.
C/2012 S1 on the other hand is new and this will be it’s first crossing and orbit of the Sun that we know of. It was discovered in October 2012 and has a name. ISON. It will make it’s close approach to Earth the November. At approach the orbit diagram clearly predicts that ISON will pass 3 months in front of Earth through it’s orbit plane.
In January 2014, once again the official orbit diagram of ISON predicts that Earth will be passing through the tail of the comet. At this point is where the most danger will persist. This will be a meteor shower of the Century.
As for impact of any debris, I have my doubts. I’ve seen many meteor. Not one has ever impacted. The closest impacts I’ve seen have resulted in a volcanic explosion, an air burst than destroyed buildings and injured 100′s, several earthquakes and one tsunami. 2 of the more recent ones have shifted the weather.
It’s May 24th and I’m under a frost warning caused in part by the meteor explosion over Russia back in February. It you watch that video, you see a debris field from a minimum of 20 miles and it’s HUGE. 1000′s of miles long. Tons of rock, water and ice vaporized into the atmosphere.
So it’s my strong opinion that there is something coming. Something to be concerned about. It’s a great idea to stock up on things. It’s not an impact, but a new ice age I’m warning you about. If my years of observations are even remotely accurate, April 2014 will be the snowiest in human history.

February 2013 2012 DA14 was at close approach even a meteor exploded over Russia.
January 2014, Comet ISON come back into view after orbiting the Sun and Earth passes through the tail and debris field.
