Trump: You Don’t Have To Understand Him. Just Respect Him.
Donald Trump constantly proves pundits wrong. Why? Because at some point everyone will attempt to make sense of Trump using their own rules. And Trump does not follow your rules. So what’s Trump’s game? Simple. He wants to be President. Don’t we all? But what The Donald has up his sleeve is nothing more than his tried and true game plan that got him his billions in the first place. Trump is following his classic strategy, the same one he wrote about in detail in his 2004 book “The Art of the Deal.”

Read the Book
Trump has his formula for success and it involves two specific things that traditional politicians are incapable of doing. First, Trump can speak his mind regardless. And second, he can always back off his prior extreme statements. In fact, this latter feature of Trump allows him to both court the hardcores as well as seem reasonable to the moderates when he backs down to what would have been an extreme position had he started there in the first place.
Imagine for a moment that Trump says he wants to ban all Muslims entering America. It’s an extreme and controversial point of view, but then Trump lightened up and stressed that America should not let any Muslim in without proper and significant vetting. Had Donald started with his lesser “extreme” view, the same attacks would have surfaced, and Trump’s viewpoint would have seemed extreme even though it makes perfect sense. So now he sounds reasonable, both shocking the world, and sounding rational and fair. Who else running could do that? Well, and get away with it.
Another example is that pesky wall thing along our southern border. Trump’s claim is considered outrageous, not because of the wall but for who will pay for it. Trump claims he will make Mexico pay for the wall. Seems strange on the surface, but how hard would it be for The Donald to open a “wall factory” in Mexico as part of a trade agreement, and suddenly the wall is an economic boon to The Estados Unidos Mexicanos. Not what you expected? Thats my point. Somewhere along the line you put Trump in your box expecting that he would follow your lines of reason. Trump never said that it was a bad thing for Mexico to turn a profit on the wall they are building. Right?
Professional Clowns are Highly Skilled
I don’t know anyone who does not find Donald Trump entertaining regardless of where on the political spectrum they fall. However the “fun factor” can leave the intellectuals wanting. What is often overlooked is the passion for a Trump Presidency is not always for Trump, but rather for what Trump represents. Trump is a symbol, and therefore symbolic for all the discontent, frustration, and downright anger that Americans have for whatever tangent of the government they feel is oppressing them.
Trump, as a billionaire, lives in a world completely different from most. I have a couple friends who are extremely wealthy, and when hanging out with them it’s like a reality distortion field settles over the world. Not good. Not bad. Just weird unless one has a foot in that particular universe. I can run with the millionaires just fine (although I’m not one). Millionaires are just like you and me but on steroids. Billionaires, on the other hand, see planet earth through the lens of total personal control and adventure. And, of course, opportunity. Constant opportunity.
So when politics and infinite wealth mix, strange things happen. One is that its nearly impossible to predict loyalties because nobody can “buy” the candidate. Another is that the practiced art of political public speaking is a non-issue. The candidate says what they want, when they want, and how they want. And retracts nothing. Why should they? Why would they?
Guns and Coffee
Trump claims to have a concealed carry permit. I have no trouble believing this, but I would find it unusual if he actually carried something that went bang. Slimming silk suits don’t take kindly to IWB holsters even if just an LCP. Plus, Trump’s private security could probably take down the Secret Service if push comes to shove it. And Trump skipping out on small-town Iowa coffee? If I were Trump…oops, almost made the mistake I warned you about. Trump does what Trump wants. Live with it.
