California: Gunpocalypse Is Going to the Governor

California Legislature likely to pass nearly a dozen anti-gun bills right before they take a month-long paid vacation.

Sacramento, CA -(AmmoLand.com)- Today, Thursday, June 30, 2016, both houses of the California Legislature will be taking up–and likely passing to Governor Jerry Brown–a massive slate of nearly a dozen anti-gun bills right before they leave for a month-long paid vacation.

This package of legislation would create new criminal liabilities affecting millions of law-abiding residents and visitors, cost tens of millions of dollars, and chill the fundamental rights of all Californians.

“Law-abiding people are not second-class citizens and we do not submit to being left with second-class rights,” said Craig DeLuz, the director of public and legislative affairs for Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC).

“The level of compliance with gun laws in California is becoming directly inverse to the volume of statutory hoops that gun owners are expected to jump through to exercise a fundamental right,” noted DeLuz.

Over the past few weeks, totalitarian California Democrats like Sen. Pro Tem Kevin de Leon and Speaker Anthony Rendon have fast-tracked a tidal wave of gun control bills, ignoring or waiving their own rules and polices in order to dump this expensive and radical package of measures on the desk of Governor Jerry Brown.

“The Legislature’s manic attack on law-abiding gun owners, democracy, and the legislative process jeopardizes not only civil rights but public respect for the law and our governmental institutions,” concluded DeLuz.

Measures likely to be voted on and sent to the Governor include:

• AB 857 (Cooper): Retroactively requires serial numbers to be placed on firearms dating back at least 50 years.
• AB 1135 (Levine): Bans common and constitutionally protected firearms that have magazine locking devices.
• AB 1511 (Santiago): Criminalizes loaning of firearms between personally known, law-abiding adults, including sportsmen, family member and competitors.
• AB 1673 (Gipson): Redefines “firearms” to include objects that are not firearms.
• AB 1674 (Santiago): Bans buying more than one firearm within a 30-day period.
• AB 1695 (Bonta): Makes a non-violent misdemeanor a prohibiting offense.
• AB 2607 (Ting): Dramatically expands secret “Gun Violence Restraining Orders”.
• SB 880 (Hall): Bans common and constitutionally protected firearms that have magazine locking devices.
• SB 894 (Jackson): Re-victimizes victims by criminalizing the failure to report lost and stolen firearms.
• SB 1235 (de Leon): Restrictions on ammunition purchases, creates a DOJ database of ammunition owners.
• SB 1407 (de Leon): Retroactively requires serial numbers to be placed on firearms dating back at least 50 years.
• SB 1446 (Hancock): Confiscation of lawfully acquired, standard capacity ammunition feeding devices.
