USA -(AmmoLand.com)- The 2016 Eastern Nationals is in the books! Congratulations to Brian Chilson, winner of each day’s match as well as the overall Iron Man.
We had a total of 52 rifles on the line over the course of four days, 31 shooting Iron sights and 23 shooting scope. Not everyone shot both days hence the number of 52.
The weather was outstanding with warm days and cool nights. The temperature swings did make for some interesting conditions with mirage being the main culprit. The conditions are easily seen in the aggregate scores – Iron sight scores on Thursday and Friday were higher than scope on Saturday and Sunday. There were many 15 pins awarded, though none for chickens. (Brian came close on Thursday with 12.) See the complete results below.
With so many talented competitors, shoot-offs were inevitable. And we had many! Unless otherwise noted, everyone shot chickens to determine the winners, indicated in bold below.
Thursday (Iron sights)
Friday (Iron sights)
Aggregate Iron Sights
*Marshall and Mark shot chickens starting with 5 animals in 7 minutes. They both hit 1 and moved to sudden death – 1 animal in 1 minute – and both shot 1. So they did it again. Marshall came out on top.
Prizes and Sponsors
After Friday’s match, we were off to the BBQ and prize drawing. The club put on a great meal with chicken, fixings and free beer. The prize table was well stocked and folks all got several cracks at it. (We award all prizes by drawing names.) In a separate drawing, Tim Gifford, AKA “Mr. Lucky” had his name drawn to win a 22 Silhouette rifle courtesy of CPA Rifles. Thank you to Gail and Paul Shuttleworth for your generosity!
Thanks to our other sponsors. In no particular order:
We usually have spectators at our matches and this month was no exception. My back-of-the-napkin calculations put the number at 46. Most of the folks coming to watch are interested in getting started in BPCR Silhouette. I work hard to get them back and shooting.
On Saturday, we had 3 guys from the PA school of gunsmithing. They ended up staying for the day so they could try our rifles first hand. Many thanks to all who offered their advice, knowledge and experience – I’m sure they won’t forget it.
Last but not least, Representative GT Thompson from the PA 5th. Congressional district stopped by on Sunday to try his hand at BPCR Silhouette. GT is a strong advocate for our 2nd amendment rights.
I’d like to thank the Ridgway Rifle Club for all their help in hosting the event, and volunteers who devoted their time to make the event a success, and the NRA for sending Greg Connor up to help us in keeping it official.
2016 seemed to be a great year for our sport thanks to the efforts of Match directors nation wide. 2017’s going to be better!
