Active reloaders Jim & Mary Clary review the Frankford Arsenal Platinum Series Precision Scale for accuracy and ease of use while reloading ammo.
United States -(AmmoLand.com)- Digital scales have made balance-beam scales obsolete, even for the beginning reloader.
For precise measurement of powder and accurate reloads, a digital scale is a must.
I would caution readers against buying the cheap ones advertised online or sold in several “big box” stores. These scales range in price from $15 to $50 and are very appealing to the budget minded. However, they are not manufactured specifically for reloading, such as the Frankford Arsenal scale. As such, there is no guarantee that they will maintain their accuracy. Consistent accuracy in a scale is critical when weighing out smokeless powder, especially when it comes to safety.
We have used digital scales for almost ten years and as a result have obtained greater accuracy with our reloads, especially in competition shooting. The Frankford Arsenal Platinum Series scale is not only compact, but has the additional advantage of being both AC powered and battery powered. Add in the impact-resistant carrying case and you have a unit that is ready for storage or travel to the range.
The specifications of the Frankford Arsenal Platinum Series Precision Scale:
Two features that are really nice on this scale are: The large hi-contrast backlit display which makes it easy for anyone to read and the fact that this scale also weighs in carats. Ok, maybe you aren’t interested in that feature, but for those of us who “dabble” in jewelry making, it is a nice extra.
All in all, this scale leaves nothing out and is well priced with its MSRP of $129.99 (much less $$ online). If you are looking for a versatile digital scale that is accurate, transportable and affordable, the Frankford Arsenal Platinum Series Precision Scale is the one to look at.
