USA -(Ammoland.com)- Pro-gun voters turned out in record numbers last Tuesday, both nationally and in Michigan, with the following results:

President:

Trump’s upset victory should produce immediate positive changes in early 2017 such as ending gun free zones on military bases and reversing several of Obama’s anti-gun executive orders.

More importantly, it will help secure the Heller and McDonald decisions by maintaining a pro-gun majority on the Supreme Court with a nomination to replace Justice Scalia.

Future events may allow Trump to nominate as many as three additional Supreme Court justices during his presidency including replacements for anti-Heller justices Ginsburg and Breyer securing the individual right to own and carry firearms for generations.

Congress:
Republicans did better than anticipated in retaining control of both the U.S. Senate and U.S. House.

For gun owners, these majorities combined with a Republican president may soon result in national concealed carry reciprocity, removing suppressors from the NFA list, NICS background check reform, and removing Obama initiated roadblocks on the importation of collectible historical firearms.

Michigan Supreme Court:
The re-election of justices Viviano and Larsen preserves the court’s 5-2 Republican affiliated control as well as total Republican control over all branches of state government.
With only one seat up for election in 2018, Republicans will continue to control the court through 2021.
Michigan House:
Not only did Republicans avoid losing control of the Michigan House, they defied pundits in retaining their current 63-47 majority.

For another two years, this kills Democratic attempts to pass an assault weapons ban, expand pistol free zones, expand background checks and registration to long guns, and require insurance for legally owned firearms.

Local Offices:
Republicans picked up an additional 36 county commission seats on Tuesday night expanding Republican control over county commissions to 63 of Michigan’s 83 counties.
While local offices have little direct impact on firearms issues in our state due to preemption laws, they produce a number of future legislative candidates and have the power to pass non-binding resolutions calling for legislative action.
Libertarians:  For the first time in history, the Libertarian Party of Michigan met the threshold to be treated as a major party.

This means that Libertarian candidates will now appear on the 2018 primary ballot and be included in the MCRGO-PAC primary rating process.

Markets:  A strong election for pro-gun candidates curtailed fears of the looming threat of a new national assault weapons ban and tax on ammunition.
Consequently, price-increases and shortages of ammunition, firearms, firearms parts, and magazines that had already begun to materialize over the past several weeks are now disappearing.

Thanks to all of you who voted!  The fight continues!
