Spaces Still Remain in Two Arizona Summer Workshops

POWER OF DATA TEACHER WORKSHOP:
Are you a middle or high school teacher? We are proud to be hosting an exciting geospatial technology workshop this summer.

The Power of Data (POD) Project, developed by the NAU Center for Science Teaching and Learning and funded by the National Science Foundation, has been recognized by Change the Equation as an Accomplished STEMworks Program that makes a real impact on students.

These professional learning programs enable secondary teachers to enhance their existing lessons with Geospatial Inquiry in order to increase students’ 21st century skills and STEM career awareness.

The workshop will take place in Phoenix from June 26-30. Workshop is free and participants can earn a $500 stipend. Space is limited and a competitive application process will be used to select participants.

FOSTERING OUTDOOR OBSERVATION AND INQUIRY SKILLS:

In this two-part workshop, teachers will learn valuable techniques to help students do scientific investigations, including developing outdoor observation and inquiry skills. Observation is a fundamental skill for students to be able to do science.

We will provide tips and tricks to help connect children with nature while engaging their senses. Inquiry is the cornerstone of science and science education. However, inquiry centered around wildlife and habitats can be a challenge.

We will explore outdoor inquiry skills in order to show students that science does not just happen in a lab or classroom.

The workshop will take place on Thursday, July 6 and Friday, July 7, 2017 in north Phoenix.

Participation is free. However, registration is required.
