Freedom to Breathe

“Yes,” the Missouri Health Care Freedom Act (MHCFA) allows us to breathe freely.

MO State Representative Kevin Wilson (R-Neosho) succinctly described Obamacare in an article from the Neosho Daily News:

“For the first time in our history you’re going to be required to buy something just because you’re breathing,” Wilson said. “I call it the breathing tax.”

Not only does MHCFA prohibit rules or laws that compel participation by individuals and employers in any health care system (for breathing), individuals and employers may not be compelled to pay any penalties or fines for direct payment towards health care services (to continue breathing).

It turns out that Rep. Wilson was spot on in labeling Obamacare as a tax, as well.  The Administration recently changed gears, arguing that Obamacare is indeed a tax for legal purposes, and in opposition to a couple of pledges from the President.  Ed Morrissey at Hot Air reports:

First, Obama insisted that he would not attempt to use the tax argument to get approval from the courts.  Second, Obama just signed the largest middle-class tax increase in years, if not ever, by mandating not just the purchase of insurance but of specific kinds of insurance.  Some estimates show that over 51% of all Americans will have to change their plans in order to meet the new requirements, and that’s not to pay less, either.  Not only that, but the Obama administration is prepared to make the argument that it passed a massive tax increase in court.

So, not only are we voting “Yes” for freedom in health care, we are voting “Yes” for freedom from taxation.
