Why are govt agencies stockpiling hollow point bullets?

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

At the same time that citizens are concerned that the government (through such initiatives as Fast and Furious) is making a move against the Second Amendment, why do government agencies need to acquire more hollow point bullets than citizens of the United States of America?
Hollow point bullets are intended to expand within the body, causing maximum damage.
For months now, we’ve been hearing that government entities have been stockpiling hollow point bullets in case of “unrest.”
Now, you  might be thinking these government entities are thinking those Occupiers are getting out of hand, as has been well documented. But, no, the government sees those crazy Tea Partiers as the ones who are getting out of hand by doing, you know, community organizing and such.
So which agencies have been buying hollow point bullets?

  • Social Security Administration
  • Department of Homeland Security
  • Transportation Security Administration
  • Secret Service
  • FEMA
  • Citizenship and Immigration Services
  • Guards that protect federal buildings
  • National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA, as in weather)
  • The EPA
  • Department of Education
  • HHS
  • IRS
  • CBP (Customs and Border Protection)
  • ICE

Major General Jerry Curry wants to know: “Who does the government intend to shoot?” Daily Caller:

What would be the target of these 174, 000 rounds of hollow point bullets? It can’t simply be to control demonstrators or rioters. Hollow point bullets are so lethal that the Geneva Convention does not allow their use on the battle field in time of war. Hollow point bullets don’t just stop or hurt people, they penetrate the body, spread out, fragment and cause maximum damage to the body’s organs. Death often follows.

Potentially each hollow nose bullet represents a dead American. If so, why would the U.S. government want the SSA to kill 174,000 of our citizens, even during a time of civil unrest? Or is the purpose to kill 174,000 of the nation’s military and replace them with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) special security forces, forces loyal to the Administration, not to the Constitution?

Mind you, thousands and thousands and HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS and MILLIONS of rounds of hollow point bullets have been purchased by these agencies.
To ease the fears of citizens who simply do not trust this administration and who believe this administration who will do by any means necessary everything possible to achieve re-election, the NRA reached out to Republican Lynn Westmoreland of Georgia who responded this way:

If you take the number of agencies that will be using this ammunition – CBP, Citizenship and Immigration Services, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), ICE, the U.S. Secret Service, Transportation Security Administration, the DHS police force, and all the guards that protect the various buildings these agencies are housed in, and spread that out over 5 years, you start to see that 450 million rounds really isn’t that large of an order. Especially considering it is used for training purposes like firing range and live fire exercises, on-the-job use (though that is very limited), and to shore up their supplies. In fact, there are 65,000 – 70,000 law enforcement personnel at DHS who would be covered under this … ammunition contract. If DHS were to purchase all 450 million rounds over 5 years, then that would equate to only about 1,384 rounds of ammo per year per law enforcement [officer]  … assuming the lower estimate of only 65,000 law enforcement personnel at DHS.  Considering those agents go through training exercises several times per year, that is not a lot of ammunition.

So, Americans, go back to being unconcerned. They just need those hollow point bullets, banned by the Geneva Convention, for…practice.
But consider getting your CCW permit.
  Just for practice.

Given that, as they say, ignorance is bliss, you must be very happy about what you have written.

First, hollow point bullets are not banned by the Geneva Convention. This is a common error that could have been set right had you done a little research.

Second, may I suggest that before you put pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard, that you do some research on your subject. A good place to start on this topic is

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geneva_Conventions

If you would like, you can buy hollow point bullets in most sporting goods stores. As you will see if you read the article, there are valid reasons for the use of this type of ammunition. Hopefully, if I happen to be in an airport of Social Security office when a gunfight erupts, the guards will have hollow points that will, hopefully, stay in the body of the perpetrator rather than passing through and hitting me or someone commonly referred to as an “innocent bystander.”

      Have a good day.

      Bill.
