California Senate Advances Multiple Gun Control Bills- VC Tea Party Member Testifies

On Tuesday, the Senate Public Safety Committee held hearings on multiple gun restrictions.  The room was packed– standing room only, actually.  The great majority of citizens testifying were pro-Second Amendment, although we were told that there was a sprinkling of bleeding hearts, using emotional appeals/sob stories/tears to justify further restrictions to our rights. One bill had about 80 people in queue to testify.

The Progressive legislators, led by Darrel Steinberg, were largely unaffected by the testimony and apparently, the Second Amendment and case law.

LA Mayor and La Raza member Antonio Villaraigosa testified in favor of multiple constitutional curtailments.

A Ventura County Tea Party member, Nancy Larned, testified on behalf of our rights multiple times. When she left at 7:30 PM, the hearings were still going strong. She said that they intended to go through all the Senate bills. There were also members of Placer and Lincoln Tea Parties, as well as Watchmen California, a Constitutional Militia.

The bills would have to go through another committee (Finance?) after this. How they would be paid for and enforced raises some “interesting” questions, to put it mildly.

Probably the worst bill to clear the committee was SB374, which would outright ban nearly all semiautomatic rifles with detachable magazines. Others would restrict or eliminate magazines, force background checks, registration, licenses and quantity limits for guns and magazines.

Several gun rights organizations/foundations are already preparing legal challenges, anticipating passage of the bills. NRA, CalGuns, CA Rifle & Pistol Owners and others were at the hearing.

Ms Larned recalled that she testified that: “I have two injured shoulders and The AR15 is the only gun I can fire without pain. There’s not enough strength in my fingers to shoot a revolver….  I have a God-given right to defend myself.”  Wow- right up there with “from my cold, dead hands” .

She reported that “there were only two Republicans on the committee, who were doing a good job speaking up for our interests, but were badly outnumbered. One observer stated that the rest of them are clueless, lefty, bleeding heart a__h___s.”  Ms. Larned saw Darrel Steinberg, who is heavily involved in unconstitutional gun control activities. When asked how many are on the committee, she replied “it was hard to tell, as they were constantly coming in and out and were never all there at once.”  The votes had to be kept open late.

Remember, most of the CA Senate’s actions today were probably unconstitutional.
