Hillary Clinton isn’t the election’s biggest loser

“They kilt us; but they ain’t whupped us yit,” former vice presidential candidate Tim Kaine channeled William Faulkner ahead of Hillary Clinton’s concession speech Wednesday.

Hillary Clinton was indeed “kilt and whupped” by Republican President-elect Donald Trump in Tuesday’s presidential election. But Clinton’s lengthy political career isn’t the only thing headed for the grave.

Here are three bigger losers than Clinton.

The Political Establishment

Trump may have been the Republican candidate— but we all know he wasn’t the Republican establishment’s first choice.

And they’re still in shock.

Take House Speaker Paul Ryan’s effort to congratulate Trump.

“I want to congratulate Donald Trump on his incredible victory,” Ryan said in a statement. “It marks a repudiation of the status quo of failed liberal progressive policies.”

In later remarks, Ryan pretended almost as if “my friend Mike Pence,” the vice president elect, had won the election rather than Trump.

We’re probably going to have to get used to hearing establishment Republicans take swipes at the commander in chief.

He ran against the establishment; and he beat it.

And it isn’t just the GOP establishment that’ll be fighting for its life over the next few years. As I noted yesterday, this is the beginning of a similar unraveling of the Democratic political machine.

The Media

The mainstream media, particularly its Washington D.C. components, was all in for Clinton. The Clinton political dynasty has long enjoyed a very healthy relationship with movers, shakers and decision makers within the highest ranks of the media establishment.

In this election season, Clinton certainly called in a lot of favors. After all, many within the MSM outright refused to cover many of Clinton’s most damning scandals even as they were served up on a platter by transparency organizations like WikiLeaks.

Meanwhile, the media lapped up anything and everything that looked remotely like a scandal hanging over the Trump camp.

The media’s relentless attacks on Trump’s “character” and “fitness” were quite obviously an attempt to distract voters from the fact that Clinton’s experience is indeed “bad” and distance her from the policies of the Obama administration of which so many Americans have grown tired.

Rasmussen’s Fran Combs artfully detailed MSM’s efforts to create a “false narrative,” and how it backfired, in a column Wednesday.

“Voters already knew the media was going to try to help Clinton, so given their concerns about the issues, it appears they were willing to take the Trump controversies in stride. As controversies go, in fact, they were more bothered by Clinton’s mishandling of classified information than they were by Trump’s alleged sexual harassment,” Combs wrote.

Stupid Progressive Myths

In case it wasn’t obvious, Clinton and her handlers went to great trouble throughout the campaign to repeatedly remind voters that she’s a woman. Simultaneously, they attempted to portray Trump as the world’s most notorious womanizer.

The message: Voting Trump is somehow akin to voting against the advancement of women in the workplace and the world.

Those who didn’t find it all very ridiculous actually believed it. Why? Because they’ve been conditioned to believe that all Republicans somehow hate women.

All of a sudden, now that the election is over, the media have somehow discovered that the Trump campaign placed strong, independent women in some very important campaign positions.

In fact, as Clinton sought guidance from her tired, mostly male group of old-school D.C. insiders, Trump sailed to victory with the help of the first woman in U.S. history to run a successful presidential campaign: Kellyanne Conway.

Another liberal myth shattered by the Trump victory is the idea that the left’s extreme political correctness is something that Americans actually like.

Reason’s Robby Soave explained how Trump’s victory was a referendum on overreaching PC culture:

Trump won because of a cultural issue that flies under the radar and remains stubbornly difficult to define, but is nevertheless hugely important to a great number of Americans: political correctness.

More specifically, Trump won because he convinced a great number of Americans that he would destroy political correctness.

I have tried to call attention to this issue for years. I have warned that political correctness actually is a problem on college campuses, where the far-left has gained institutional power and used it to punish people for saying or thinking the wrong thing. And ever since Donald Trump became a serious threat to win the GOP presidential primaries, I have warned that a lot of people, both on campus and off it, were furious about political-correctness-run-amok—so furious that they would give power to any man who stood in opposition to it.

So, the vote is in. Republicans don’t universally think that women are poorly suited for positions of great authority. And it actually isn’t so “deplorable” to want to hear someone tell it like it is from time to time.

Of course, the left’s PC psychosis is going to remain with us— and we’re going to be hearing a lot about their Trump-related terror in the months and years ahead. With any luck, however, it’ll get harder and harder for them to take themselves seriously.
