Giddy Schumer talks Trump on hot mic: ‘He likes us!’

Following their meeting with President Donald Trump to discuss the future of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, Democrats can’t contain their excitement.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) was caught on a hot mic on the Senate floor Thursday expressing pleasure that his party has an ally in the White House.

“He likes us. He likes me, anyway,” Schumer said.

The lawmaker added that he encouraged the president to continue reaching out to Democrats rather than sticking to his original policy positions.

“Here’s what I told him. I said, ‘Mr. President, you’re much better off if you can sometimes step right, and sometimes step left,’ ” Schumer said. “ ‘If you have to step just in one direction, you’re boxed.’ He gets that.

“Oh, it’s gonna work out,” Schumer continued. “And it’ll make us more productive, too.”

The hot mic moment didn’t help the Trump administration, which spent much of the day Thursday attempting to reassure GOP voters that the president hadn’t completely thrown in with Democrats on immigration.

Breitbart skewered the president with a headline late Wednesday calling Trump “Amnesty Don.”

The lede to the piece declared: “In a meeting with establishment politicians from the Problem Solvers Caucus and the Blue Dog Coalition, President Trump signaled a full-fledged cave on the issue of giving amnesty to nearly 800,000 illegal aliens currently protected by an Obama-created executive immigration program.”

The president’s early Thursday tweets attempting to explain his seemingly weakened stance on immigration also drew fire from conservatives throughout the day.

No deal was made last night on DACA. Massive border security would have to be agreed to in exchange for consent. Would be subject to vote.

Despite the criticism, the president maintains that there’s no amnesty coming.

“We’re not looking at citizenship. We’re not looking at amnesty,” he said.

“We’re looking at allowing people to stay here,” Trump added. “Everybody’s on board. They want to do something. We’re not talking about amnesty. We’re talking about taking care of people.”

Still, did you catch the doublespeak there? It’s not amnesty, we just aren’t making any illegal aliens leave.

Which is amnesty.
