Gun owners: These companies don’t want your business

Corporate America is sending a message to U.S. 2nd Amendment supporters as company after company severs benefits partnerships with the National Rifle Association.

The leftist website ThinkProgress, which is funded by George Soros’ Center for American Progress, is taking credit for the growing #BoycottNRA movement which kicked off in the days following the tragic school shooting in Florida earlier this month.

Last week, ThinkProgress published a report listing companies “doing business” with the NRA by offering NRA members discounts and other perks.

From the website: “Much like AARP or AAA offer discounts for their own members, the NRA promotes its discounts for members as a selling point for why people should join. The ‘valuable 5-star benefits’ promised include not just a subscription to an NRA magazine and a gun-owner liability protection policy but also savings on insurance, identity theft protection, hearing aids, car rentals, moving vans, shipping, and even wine. While some of these perks are provided by in-house subsidiaries, many are offered through corporate partners — including some household names.”

ThinkProgress added: “ThinkProgress asked more than two dozen corporations that offer incentives to NRA members whether they plan to continue their relationships with the gun lobby. A growing number of those companies have ended their relationship with the NRA since this list was initially published.”

The pressure worked, as companies on the list began announcing last week that they’re ending special discounts and incentives for the NRA’s more than 5 million members.

By Monday, USA Today confirmed that the following companies had officially done away with benefits for NRA members:

*Delta Air Lines: The company axed discounted rates for NRA members.

*United Airlines: United ended an offer of discounted flights for NRA members traveling to their annual meeting.

*Enterprise Holdings: The parent company of car rental brands Enterprise, Alamo and National is ending discount deals with the NRA within a few weeks.

*Hertz: Like Enterprise, car rental company Hertz is ending discounts to NRA members.

*Avis and Budget: The company that owns the Avis and Budget rental car firms also plans to end discounts for NRA members.

*Symantec: The cybersecurity company’s LifeLock identity theft protection service for businesses and its Norton anti-virus software had both offered discounts to NRA members. Those deals are off.

*TrueCar: The online car-buying service is ending its deal for NRA members, who previously saved an average of nearly $3,400 off the retail price of new and used vehicles.

*MetLife: The insurer had offered discounts to NRA members on auto and home policies before axing the deal.

*SimpliSafe: The home security company had offered a special promotion to NRA members, but that ended Friday.

*First National Bank of Omaha: The financial institution cut an NRA-branded Visa credit card

The companies’ response to #BoycottNRA has many on the left cheering and demanding action from other businesses, including tech giants Amazon, Apple, Google and Roku which stream the NRA videos via the organizations 24-hour  NRATV channel.

The NRA and its members, meanwhile, are pushing back.

In a statement Saturday, the NRA questioned why businesses would attack law-abiding gun owners:

The law-abiding members of the NRA had nothing at all to do with the failure of that school’s security preparedness, the failure of America’s mental health system, the failure of the National Instant Check System or the cruel failures of both federal and local law enforcement.

Despite that, some corporations have decided to punish NRA membership in a shameful display of political and civic cowardice.  In time, these brands will be replaced by others who recognize that patriotism and determined commitment to Constitutional freedoms are characteristics of a marketplace they very much want to serve.

Let it be absolutely clear. The loss of a discount will neither scare nor distract one single NRA member from our mission to stand and defend the individual freedoms that have always made America the greatest nation in the world.

The companies’ actions have also led a number of conservatives to announce boycotts and even join the NRA if they weren’t previously members.
