Over growth of C. difficile is asociated to diarrhea.  Long term of  unhealthy microbiota can lead to inflammatory bowel disease, induce obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular Disease(5).

 

Dr. Miele L, the lead author said, “Gut microbiota has been recently established to have a contributory role in the development of cardiometabolic disorders, such as atherosclerosis, obesity, and type 2 diabetes” and “Growing interest has focused on the modulation of gut microbiota as a therapeutic strategy in cardiovascular diseases and metabolic disorders”.

 

According to general belief, in take probiotic may be considered as a health choice in improved gut health. However, according to recent study, “While evidence of the preventive and therapeutic effects of probiotic strains on diarrhoeal illness and other intestinal conditions is promising, the exact mechanisms of the beneficial effects are not fully understood. Recent studies have raised the question of whether non-viable probiotic strains can confer health benefits on the host by influencing the immune system”.

As 15 participants.who participated in the study showed the trend of eating more processed snack foods (high energy, low fiber) after ceasing chickpea consumption(1).

In a 27 free-living adults followed two randomized, crossover dietary interventions each of five weeks duration, Dr. Pittaway JK and research team said,”… significant decrease in serum TC and LDL-C during the chickpea diet compared to the equivalent fibre wheat diet was partly due to unintentional changes in macronutrient intake occurring because of chickpea ingestion”(2).

The effect of chickpea in promotion of bowel health may be the result of high amount of dietary fiber found in the legume.

In the study of the effectiveness of probiotics, prebiotics, and dietary fiber in the treatment of FGD in the pediatric population, researchers suggested that administration of a fiber supplement is more effective than placebo for the treatment of childhood constipation(3).

In fact, fiber undergone partial or total fermentation after conscription in the distal small bowel and colon can lead to production of short-chain fatty acids and gas, thereby affecting gastrointestinal function and sensation, the University of Michigan Health System, insisted(4).

And high-fiber diet showed to improve bowel function and health-related quality of life in patients with Crohn disease(8), According to the study of 2-group individuals diagnosed with the disease.

 

The results suggested that consuming food with fiber in the diet scores a significant effect in improved health-related quality of life and gastrointestinal function in compared to same foods without fiber.

Taking altogether, people who eat a portion of chickpea everyday may improve the bowel health, regardless to types of diet.
