City of Corpus Christi TX Attempts to Whitewash Illicit Appointment of Korean Green Card Holder to Municipal Judge Since 2015

[Editor's Note: This is an outrageous case of criminal fraud and the principals involved: the city officials of Corpus Christi, Texas and a Korean national named Young Min Choi Burkett, appointed to a municipal judgeship in 2015 and again in 2017, are pretending that it's all just a silly clerical oversight concerning her non citizen status and that everything will be patched up neat and clean within a 90 days hiatus while faux Judge Young Min Choi Burkett gets her U.S. citizenship rammed through at lightening speed as all kinds of citizenship application rules and procedures are waived in her favor (it normally takes five years from the time you APPLY to be granted citizenship).

Yoing Min Choi came to this country from Korea on a student visa to attend law school. She married an American in 2007 and obtains her alien resident green card. She then works for the Corpus Christi District Attorney's office for 7 years and gets herself appointed to the bench as a municipal judge in 2015 and re-appointed again in February 2017. Of course, it never once occurs to 7 year veteran District Attorney's office attorney, Young Min Choi Burkett, that citizens of other countries aren't eligible to be judges in the USA, even a municipal judge, earning a base salary of $97k per year.

The consensus party line being pushed by the members of the city council and the just-elected (May 2017) mayor-elect Joe McComb (the previous mayor of Corpus Christi elected in November 2016, Dan McQueen, resigned in Jan 2017 following a series of scandalous Facebook comments and evidence of nepotism) is that: 1) there was no intention of deception or fraud on Young Min Burkett's part or the city's part and 2) none was committed declared the mayor, members of the city council, and the city attorney's office. In fact, the city attorneys declared that all of faux Judge Young Min Burkett's rulings from the bench are legal, legitimate, binding, and will stand. Now, isn't THAT special?

A Korean national is imposing fines, jail sentences, and court orders upon American citizens and it's all perfectly legal and binding claim the liars working for the Corpus Christi city attorney's office.

Considering the flim-flaming that takes place under the nose of its citizens, os it any wonder that Corpus Christi, Texas has been ranked as the #2 city in the entire nation with the highest illiteracy rate?

This case cries out for a federal investigation and indictments handed down against all complicit parties involved including the woman herself and those within the Corpus Christi city administration who allowed this fraud to take place.]

Texas Judge Placed on Leave after Non-citizenship Discovered

http://www.breitbart.com/texas/2017/05/18/texas-judge-placed-leave-non-citizenship-discovered/

Officials in Corpus Christi, Texas, placed a municipal court judge on unpaid suspension when they learned she is not a U.S. citizen — a requirement for the position.

After learning Judge Young Min [Choi] Burkett was not a citizen, City officials placed her on unpaid leave for 90 days to give her time to complete her citizenship process, according to Corpus Christi Mayor Pro-Tem Lucy Rubio. The City did not disclose how they learned about her lack of citizenship.

Mayor Pro-Tem Rubio told the Associated Press that no one asked her about her citizenship during the hiring and qualification process. He also said she never attempted to deceive anyone or misrepresent her background.

However, the Department of Homeland Security Employment Eligibility Verification form, I-9, asks, under penalty of perjury, if the applicant is a citizen, noncitizen national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work. The City did not disclose if Judge Burkett filled out the form, how she answered it, or who verified the information on the form.

Rubio reported that Corpus Christi City attorneys have reviewed the circumstances and stated that rulings Judge Burkett made during her tenure remain valid and lawful.

While Judge Burkett did not return calls from reporters, her husband sent a statement to the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, USA Today reported. “The job posting specified only the ability to work in the U.S.,” he stated. “She has never made a representation that she is a citizen.” He said she obtained legal permanent resident status in 2007.

Corpus Christi Mayor-Elect Joe McComb told reporters at KIII ABC3 he believed the matter to simply be a paperwork error. “Did the City make a mistake in not asking the right question?” the mayor-elect said, “I don’t think there was any intention by anybody, City or applicant, and so, you make a mistake, you admit it, and you move on and that’s what we’re doing.”

Mayor Pro-Tem Rubio chairs the City’s Municipal Court Committee. She said she is not convinced the city attorney’s opinion is correct and this could be more of a wait-and-see situation. She told KIII reporters, “Someone can come back and say, ‘You know what? I’m going to say I don’t agree with her decision, and I’m going to challenge it,’ and they have every right to challenge it.”

A local attorney told the Corpus Christi ABC affiliate the revelation “could prove problematic when it comes to challenging those rulings.”

A Facebook page claiming to be Judge Young Min Choi Burkett states she began working as a municipal court judge in March 2015. Prior to that, the page claimed she worked in the Nueces County District Attorney’s Office for nearly seven years. The page lists Burkett’s place of birth as Seoul, South Korea.

The city attorney’s office and the judge did not return calls to local news outlets.
